      Create a new Stock Group

      The what, how and why of creating new stock groups.

      What are stock groups?

      A stock group is a mapping between Stock Class and Enterprise. For example, you may have "Steers" as a stock class. You may have a trading enterprise and breeding enterprise. In order to be able to keep these animals accounted for correctly under each enterprise there is a need to be able to allocate them to their correct enterprise. In stock group set up you can map "Steers" to the "Trading" enterprise and name these "Steers Trading". You can then map "Steers" to the "Breeding" enterprise and name these "Steers Breeding". When you set up your Mobs/herds you can then have a mix of "Steers Trading" and "Steers Breeding" in the same herd. This will allow you to allocate costs and track enterprise performance more accurately. This explained in Mob / Herd Setup - Introduction to livestock setup.

      This article explains how to create a new stock group.

      Remember Stock Class + Enterprise = Stock Group.

      This is Step 3 of the Livestock setup process.

      How to create a new stock group

      • Open the 'Settings Dashboard' (Step 1)

      • Click on 'Stock Group Setup' (Step 2)

      • Click on Add New Stock Group (1)

      • Click on the drop down box under the 'Stock Class' column. (Column a)

      • Click on the name of the stock class to be matched with an enterprise.

      • Click on the drop down box under 'Enterprise'. (Column b)

      • Click on the Enterprise name to be matched with the stock class.

      • Click into the data entry box under 'Stock Group Name'. (Column c)

      • Type in a name that is relevant to your operation.

      • Repeat until all of your stock groups have been set up.

      • Click on Save and Close when finished (2)

       

      These stock groups will now be available for selection when you are setting up mobs/herds or performing purchases etc.

      To remove a stock group during setup, hover your mouse to the right of the stock group and click on the blue cross when it appears. If a cross doesn't appear or it is greyed out it is because this stock group has been used in mob/herd setup and cannot be deleted.

      If this new stock group is a change to an existing account it is recommended that you do a livestock purchase to introduce these animals to your property.

       

      If you are just starting with MaiaGrazing then you are now ready to set up your Herds/Mobs.
