Setup Rainfall Sites

Create and link rainfall sites to the paddocks/pastures that they measure rainfall for.

This article explains:

Rainfall is one of the key pieces of data in MaiaGrazing. Rainfall sites represent rain gauges where you physically measure rainfall on a regular basis. Every paddock needs to be linked to a rainfall site, so that the key metrics of rolling rainfall and stockdays/ha/100mm or stockdays/acre/inch are accurate.

How are the rainfall metrics calculated?

Single rainfall site: MaiaGrazing will calculate the rolling rainfall based on a the rainfall entered for that gauge.

Multiple rainfall sites: If you have multiple rainfall sites set up, MaiaGrazing will calculate the rolling rainfall based on a distributive average of the land area linked to that gauge.

Example: if one site is linked to 60% of the property (area wise) and has a 600mm rolling rainfall, and another is linked to 40% with 500mm rolling rainfall, MaiaGrazing will calculate the property level rolling rainfall as (600 x 60%) + (500 x 40%) = 560mm.

What happens if rainfall isn't entered for a rainfall site?

If you don't reliably enter rainfall for a particular rainfall site MaiaGrazing will assume 0 rainfall. Your actual rainfall received will be underestimated.

Using the above example: if you had only recorded 200mm of the actual 500mm rainfall for second rainfall site, then your property level rolling rainfall will be showing as 440mm, instead of 560mm. Thus we recommend you only set up rainfall sites in MaiaGrazing for rain gauges that you reliably record rainfall for.

Setting up rainfall sites

OR

Rainfall sites do not have starting or ending dates. If your account has been setup for a while and you are adding a new rainfall site historical rainfall will need to be entered to ensure that metrics remain accurate.
