Process for entering natural increase into MaiaGrazing at time of weaning where mothers have been carrying the feed demand for both animals.
This article covers the steps required to:
Step 1: Enter a birth event
- Click on 'Operations'
- Click on 'Livestock'
- Scroll down the mob/herd list until you locate the herd/mob that the mother animals are part of.
- Hover over the 3 dots
to the right of the mob/herd - Click on 'Birth'
A new screen will open.

Enter the date that the animals will be introduced into the program. (1)

Click on the 'Add' drop down box (2) .

Click on the stock group name of the progeny.
This will create a line in the birth event.

Type over the words 'Stock Item 1'. (3) [This is the label that will show up in your herd/mob management and treatments screens.]

Click on the dropdown box under 'Mother'

Select the mothers of these animals (4)

Enter the number of animals that are being born in (5)

Complete the weight, rating, and price per kg boxes (6) [Remember the weaned animal will need a feed demand rating from now on as you are about to reduce the rating of the mother animal to account for weaning her progeny]
Ensure that all the data entry boxes contain a value. They must not be blank. If you do not wish to enter a values please insert a zero.

Enter more animals to the birth event if required by click on the “Add” drop down box and following steps 3 - 6 again.

Click on 'Save' when you are finished entering all of the animals for this birth event.
These birthed animals will now be visible in your herd/mob list when you expand the mob.
Step 2: Split the birthed animals out of the parent mob into their own mob.
- Click on 'Operations'
- Click on 'Livestock'
- Scroll down the mob/herd list until you locate the herd/mob with the birthed animals.
- Hover over the 3 dots
to the right of the mob/herd - Click on 'Split'
- Enter the date that the birthed animals were drafted out of the parent herd/mob.
- Click on the dropdown box that says 'Add to New or Existing Herd/Mob' and select 'Add to New Herd/Mob' (1)
- Type a name of the new mob in the 'New Mob Name ' (2)
- Enter the number of each type of animals to be drafted from the first mob into the second mob. (3)
- Click on Save (4).
Your new herd/mob of weaned animals will now show in your Mob List and can be treated like any other mob.
Step 3: Change the rating of the mothers to reflect that they are no longer feeding the weaners.

Click on 'Operations'

Click on 'Livestock'

Scroll down the mob/herd list until you locate the herd/mob that the mother animals are part of.

Click on the herd/mob name.

Click on the 3 dots
and click on Edit (see arrow)

Enter the date that the ratings will change for the mother animals. (1)

Enter the new ratings for that date onwards. (2)

Click "Save" when you are done. (3)
Step 4: Transfer the mothers from being wet to being dry.

Click on 'Operations'

Click on 'Livestock'

Scroll down the mob/herd list until you locate the herd/mob that the mother animals are part of.

Hover over the 3 dots
to the right of the herd/mob name. -
Click on “Transfer”
The transfer screen will open

Enter the date that is the day AFTER you entered the change in rating. (1)

Select the wet cows from the 'Stock group from' drop-down (2)

Select the dry cows from the 'Stock group to' drop-down (3)

Enter the number of cows to be transferred from wet to dry (4)

Click on 'Save' when you are finished
You have now successfully:

introduced your weaned stock into the program
-
separated them into a separate herd/mob
-
given the weaned stock and the mothers of the weaned stock their own feed demand rating.
