Temporary Fencing
Options for temporary fencing in MaiaGrazing.
Currently there is not a function in MaiaGrazing to capture all of the data when temporary fencing is used.
There are 3 options if you need to record temporary fences in MaiaGrazing:
-
Option 3: Create a grid of permanent paddocks.
Option 1: Capture data for the permanent (large) paddock only.
This is the best option if the temporary fencing formation changes constantly.
For example, if Paddock A is a permanent paddock where temporary fencing is used to split it into 5 smaller sections that change configuration each time that you install them, then you will only be able to capture the graze data for the time the stock spend in Paddock A as a whole.
If they spent:
Section 1: 2 days
Section 2: 3 days
Section 3: 4 days
Section 4: 6 days
Section 5: 8 days
In MaiaGrazing this will only be recorded as 1 graze in Paddock A for 23 days.
Option 2: Create permanent paddocks for Temporary Fenced Paddocks.
If the temporary fences are placed in the same formation all the time, the paddocks can be created as permanent paddocks. Click HERE to learn how to create new paddocks.
Note: If these paddocks are merged and/or split in the future the data will always remain with the original paddock. However that data will not be attached to a new paddock that is created from a split or merge.
Option 3: Create a grid of permanent paddocks
Best option for strip grazing.
If you graze approximately the same area each graze then you can create a grid of permanent paddocks. Then use the open gates function to choose the appropriate formation of grazes.
